Red Hot Poker Plants For Sale

Short Description

Spikes topped by narrow, tubular flowers from pale yellow to orange-red.

Full Description

The genus Kniphofia (Red Hot Poker) is a group of South African native perennials that range from 10in dwarfs to 7ft giants. We have spent quite a bit of time evaluating kniphofia species and cultivars for their garden performance and hope you enjoy our ever-expanding offerings. The distinctive flower scapes of Kniphofia have inspired a number of vivid epithets; most commonly it is referred to as Red Hot Poker or Torch Lily. Vigorous and low maintenance, this plant grows a clump of fine grass-like foliage without the need for special attention.

Not a blowtorch, but close. Spikes glow, blaze open fiery red, then pale and wither. Mixture contains colors not usually available. Use as accents with grasses or sprawling blues and purples. Spice up your hypercums, heleniums and gaillardias. The classic showpiece. GARDEN HINTS: Seeds may be started indoors about 6 weeks before outdoor planting time. In cold areas, protect over winter with a layer of straw mulch. Cultivate or mulch to control weeds.
